You should update your X (formerly Twitter) credentials often to keep your account secure and safe from hackers. Here are several ways to change an X password.
How to Change Your X Password from Twitter.com
If you know your password and want to change it, sign in to your X account to make the change.
- Sign in to your X account using your current password.
- SelectMore in the left vertical panel.
- SelectSettings and privacy .
- Under theYour Account heading, selectChange your password .
- Enter your current password in theCurrent password text box.
- Enter the new password you want to use in theNew password text box.
- Enter the new password a second time in theConfirm password text box.
- SelectSave when you’re done.
- You may be asked to review applications that can access your account. SelectReview applications to see the apps that require your new log in credentials.
To add even more security to your X account, set up two-factor authentication . Two-factor authentication means that you’ll use your X password to log in—plus one of the following: a security code, confirmation from another app, or a text message.

Changing your X password from the X mobile app is similar to changing it on the X website.
- Open the X app on your smart device.
- Tap your profile picture.
- TapSettings and privacy near the bottom of the screen.
- TapAccount .
- Under theLogin and security heading, tapPassword .
- Enter your current password in theCurrent password text box.
- Enter the new password you want to use in theNew password text box.
- Enter the new password a second time in theConfirm password text box.
- TapUpdate Password .
- The next time you sign in to your X account, use the new password.
Change X Password From the X Mobile Website
When you want to change your X password using a web browser on your Android or iPhone, use the X mobile site. The steps to change your X password using the X mobile website are different than using the X website.
- Open your favorite mobile web browser.
- Go to the X mobile website.
- Sign in using your current password.
- Tap yourprofile image in the upper-left corner.
- TapSettings and privacy .
- TapYour account .
- TapChange your password .
- Enter your current password in theCurrent password text box.
- Enter the new password you want to use in theNew password text box.
- Enter the new password a second time in theConfirm password text box.
- TapSave when you’re done.
- Use your new password the next time you sign in to X.
Reset an X Password You’ve Lost or Forgotten
Passwords get lost and forgotten. When you can’t remember your X password, reset it.
X requires an email address or a phone number to reset a lost or forgotten password. Make sure you’ve added one or both to your account.
- Go to the X sign-in page.
- SelectForgot password?
- Enter your email address, phone number, or X username in the text box.
4. SelectSearch . You’ll be asked to choose how to reset your password.
5. Choose the method you want to use for the password reset. Depending on how your X account is set up, the reset code will be sent to either your phone number or email address.
6. SelectContinue . A message appears telling you to open your email or check your text messages.
7. Open the email or text message, then selectReset password .
8. Enter your new password in theType your new password text box.
9. Enter your new password a second time in theType your new password one more time text box.
10. SelectSubmit .
- Sign in to X with your username and new password.
